Abstract
In this study, it is aimed to identify social science teachers’ activities about helping students to gain the value respect for the rights and freedom through the views of teachers. In the study qualitative research approach was preferred. Data were collected from 17 social science teachers who work in Trabzon city through interviews. Descriptive analysis method was employed for data analysis. Results of the study show that social science teachers approve the inclusion of the value of respect for the rights and freedoms in the curriculum; they mostly use traditional teaching methods in helping students to gain value of respecting to rights and freedom; again mostly they employ traditional assessment methods besides observation and peer-evaluation. It is understood that teachers face some problems those derive from school, parents, media and environment when they teach rights and freedom. At the end, some recommendations were made on the basis of findings of the research.
