Abstract :
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of using dynamic mathematic software GeoGebraon the achievement and retention of the studentson 5th grade subjects of “Polygons and Quadrilaterals”. This study was structured as a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design with a control group. To figure out the differences between experimental and control group about learning of “Polygons and Quadrilaterals ”, a dynamic mathematic program GeoGebra was utilized in the experimental group while the current program with no use of GeoGebra was appliedin the control group during the 5 week of the study. In this research, “Polygons and Quadrilaterals Test for Elementary School 5thGraders” (Cronbach Alpha = .75) with 26 items, developed by researcher was used as a means of data collection. The experimental and control groups were subjected simultaneously to; a pretest, a week before the study onset,a posttest right after the study completion and a retention test 8 weeks after the study completion regarding the students’ success. To utilize Quantitative analysis of this research, data was subjected to an analysis of independent t-test and paired T-test. Results of this study illustrated that using dynamic mathematic software GeoGebra was more effective on students’ success on Polygons and Quadrilaterals subjects comparing to the regular classrooom activities in which GeoGebra was not used. Moreover the level of retention was found to be significantly higher when GeoGebra was used in instruction.
