Abstract :
In the present study, parents coming to book stores with their children are interviewed and their opinions are evaluated when they buy /select books for their children. Subjects of the study are 104 parents (81 mothers and 23 fathers) coming to book stores with their children in central parts of Ankara in 2015-2016 fall education period. The study is a qualitative work. Family interview form prepared by researchers and composed of semi structured questions, was used to be data collecting tool. It was determined as the result of the study that mostly mothers come to book stores to buy book for their children. Parents pay attention for age and content suitability of the books for the children and then being interesting enough. Parents read books to their children every day before going to bed every night and mothers generally read books in families. In addition, when there is a conflict on book preference between parents and children, nearly half of parents change their decision and accept those children insist on buying while the rest half do not accept it.
