Abstract :
Proper mix design (including the use of proper aggregate and binders) and quality control are critical to a mixture in situ performance. The main objective of the paper is to present the experimental procedures to study the effect of the aggregate source, gradation as well as the binder content on the potential pavement performance. The experimental results were utilized to develop a statistical model that can be used to extract the guidelines for the mixture design in light of the prevailing pavement distresses in UAE. The model is envisaged to provide quantification of the mixture properties considering the variations in the aggregate types, aggregate gradation and binder content. The adopted approach entails the development of a Factorial Experimental Design Models (FEDM) for mix properties. The experimental results and analyses of models are presented in details.
