Abstract :
Oil industries are considered the main sources of pollution in Iraq. In this study, we detect the ability of Iraqi bentonite (sodium and calcium) to prevent oil pollution by leakage as compacted liners by using three grain size (75, 150, and 250 micron). Two types of Iraqi crude oil (East – Baghdad, and Al – Burjsiha) were used. It was calculated the rate of oil flow through unit cross sectional area and adsorption capacity of bentonites. Also effectiveness used only compacted bentonite as anti- spill. The results show that Ca- bentonite adsorption capacity better than Na-bentonite. Adsorption capacity increases with increasing the grain size of bentonite (150 um) and (API) gravity of crude oil since it reaching to 75.55 % . Na- bentonite is better than Ca-bentonite as anti-spill of crude oil. Efficiency increase with decrease Na- bentonite grain size (75 um) and increase API gravity of crude oil. The flow rate of crude oil decreased with increase the thickness of bentonite and seepage of crude oil reduced.
