Abstract :
In the early 1990s, an online zakat system was developed in Malaysia. Online zakat systems development has made zakat management agency more efficient and allowed it to perform its duties regardless oftime, location, and situation. Nevertheless, the usability of online zakat system has not yet been fully assessed. Consequently, the issue of how user friendly the system is has arisen. The main objective of this study is to assess the usability of the online zakat system throughout Malaysia. This is an exploratory study and the instrument used is adapted from Lewis psychometric tests (1995). The psychometric testing instrument contains 19 items with a Likert scale of 7 points. In the study, one hundred respondents took part in the implementation of the psychometric tests and 14 online zakat websites were investigated. Generally, the results showed that the overall mean scorefor the 14 online zakat websites was 5.84. The highest mean score was obtained by the zakat system which was implemented by Selangor (6.60), followed by Federal Territory (6.45), Penang (5.82) and Sabah (5.65). In addition, the research also indicated that a low mean score was obtained by several online zakat systems. Among them were the online zakat systems of Perak (3. 79), Kedah (3:56) and Terengganu (3.84). The study also offers some suggestions on how to enhance the usability of online zakat system which will reinforce its usability especially among new users.
