Abstract :
This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the implementation of the program for professional development of teachers in high-performing schools in the South Zone and Central Zone of Malaysia. Data were collected using a questionnaire distributed to 150 teachers in each zone. Subsequently, data were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation and inferential statistics (Mann-Whitney U). The study found that professional development programs for teachers in high-performing schools in the South Zone and Central Zone of Malaysia rate high and very satisfying with a mean score above 4. The programs included programs’ objectives, contents, delivery methods and evaluation. However, there are significant differences in the performance of professional development programs in both types of the zone when p 0.05. The implication of the study shows the importance for the school to enhance teachers’ competencies through teacher professional programs on an ongoing basis whether in a formal or informal settings.
