Abstract :
This research introduces an efficient method to deduce shoreline changes of AL-Thirthar Lake using time series, satellite TM data dated 1990 and topography map in scale metric1:100 000, dated 2003 covering the same geographical area. This research utilized the experience-conditions/ (thresholds) of different bands to recognize the total region of ALThirthar Lake. Taking DNs less than or equal to (45) in band 4, and DNs less than or equal to(36) in band 5. These conditions extract lake body from other image features. Various shorelines should be used to detect lake levels change. The area of the lake has been decreased approximately (444.16) km2 from 1990 to 2003. These results have been verified through TOPEX/Posidon satellite information that indicate a height variation of approximately 21 m. This study was performed using ArcGI S9.3, ENVI4.5 software, and MATLAB7.8a language
