Abstract :
The literature on enterprise finances focuses overwhelmingly on manufacturing industry and clustering industry in the developing countries. This study aims to examine the source of financing and its impact on exports and research and development (R D) in the Uganda fish industry. The study adopted a mix approach using qualitative questionnaire survey and quantitative approach to assess the source of financing and its impacts on exports and R D. The findings reveal that fish enterprises’ access to formal financial credit is limited to supporting fish production, exports and R D. The developmental role of government, innovative lending technologies of financial institutions and leasing firms can be instrumental in addressing the SMEs’ persistent financing difficulties to boost overall socio-economic developments.
