Abstract :
The paper deals with a stochastic model for maximum levels formation in the Biya, the second among largest Mountain Altai streams, the right tributary of the Ob River. Using the method proposed by Galakhov V.P. and the archival meteorological data (1966–1988), we calculated the matrix of orographic correction to the velocity of vertical movements in the frontal zone. The constructed matrix was used to estimate the amount of winter precipitation in the Biya catchment. A regression model was developed to evaluate maximum water levels in the Biya depending on winter precipitation in the watershed. Factors responsible for deviations in calculated and actual values were identified, and the influence of Lake Teletskoye on maximum levels formation in the Biya River was defined.
