MOSAICS OF BURSA / HİSAR REGION AND THE GEOMETRIC MOTIF REPERTORY

In this article, the mosaics of Hisar Region, which has privileged potential within cultural history of Bursa, have been studied due to its unique design and craftsmanship. But until now, these mosaics are not studied in a comprehensive way. These mosaics are Yerkapı Mosaics which are located in the ancient Prussia ad Olympum city, Zodiac belted mosaic which is uncovered during rescue excavations in the neighbourhood of Molla Gürani and mosaic panels which are protected in the Bursa Archaeology Museum and Muradiye Külliyesi. The main objectives are to explain the geometric patterned mosaic form in this area in details and to make a detailed motifs identification by comparing them with the similar ones.
