Abstract :
Theobjectiveoftheresearchistoidentifythecausesofsecondaryschoolstudents’failuretoacquireEnglisheffectively.Thisqualitativeresearchinvolvesanumberofstudents,teachersfromloweranduppersecondaryschools,lecturersandEnglishdepartmentstudents.FindingsofthisresearchrevealissuessuchasEnglishteacherquality,Englishstudyprogramgraduatesquality,lackofEnglishlearninghoursatschool,theabsenceofextra-curricularactivitiesforEnglishexposureandEnglishspeakingenvironment,Englishnationalexam,theunderuseandinexistenceoffacilitiesandineffectivemonitoringsystemasthemajorcontributorsofstudents’Englishlearningineffectiveness.Thisstudy,therefore,recommendstherelevantministriestocopewiththeseissuesurgentlyorelsethisunfavorablesituationwillremainunchangedinfutureyears.
