Abstract :
Latife Tekin s Garden of Forgetting (2004), is an allegorical novel which questions memory, forgetting and identity connections in terms of both group dynamics and personal struggle to achieve self-integration in a society. The novel collects individuals who have different stories in life but a common goal to come together in the garden: they want to escape from the burden of the past. On the contrary, it becomes clear day by day that these people can never manage to forget, yet as they retell their past experiences by calling them from the memory, they recognize that all are part of their identity. This paper aims to examine and exemplify the will to forget and on the other hand the inseparable connection of memory and identity in the novel by the help of the theories of memory, remembrance and identity.
