Abstract :
Artificial knee replacement is a surgical operation in which the defective knee joint surfaces are replaced completely with an artificial joint. Total knee replacement (TKR), also referred to as total knee arthroplasty (TKA), is a surgical procedure where worn, diseased, or damaged surfaces of a knee joint are removed and replaced with artificial surfaces. The current investigation deals with one of the most important parameters in controlling the life span of the artificial knee, which is the thickness of the polyethylene layer of Tibia Tray of artificial knee joint. Three different thickness of polyethylene layers (8, 9, and 10 mm) are available at hospitals assembled with similar identical tibia trays. This makes knee surgeons confused as to which polyethylene layer thickness to choose. It was found that the strength of polyethylene and the strength of cement constituents of the artificial knee are increased with polyethylene layer thickness
