Abstract :
Itisreportedthathopefulthinkingplaysapositiveroleinencouragingpatientstoachievefunctionalgoalsduringthe
rehabilitationprocess.Hopeisakeyconceptinevaluatingstrokeoutcomesinresearchandrehabilitationpractice.Aims.The
purposeofthisstudywastoinvestigatethepsychometricpropertiesoftheKoreanDispositionalHopeScale(K-DHS)usingthe
Raschanalysisinpatientswithhemiplegicstroke.Methods.TheK-DHSwascompletedby166community-dwellinghemiplegic
strokepatientsinKorea.Datawereanalyzedaccordingtoitemfit,itemdifficulty,andtheappropriatenessoftheratingscale
usingtheRaschanalysis.Results.Itemfitanalysisshowedthat8itemsoftheK-DHSareappropriatebecausetheinfitMSNQ
wasbetween0.7and1.3.Itemdifficultyresultsrevealedthatthereisadifferenceindistributionbetweenpersonalattributesand
itemdifficulty.Itshowsthattheitemfitstatisticsofthe4-pointLikertscaleofK-DHSareallgood.Thepersonseparationindex
demonstratedthattheK-DHScoulddifferentiatetwoorthreehopestatusstratainstrokepatients.Theitemseparationindex
indicatedthattheitemswereusefulwithhighreliability.Conclusion.TheK-DHScomprisesappropriateitemsformeasuringthe
hopeofstrokepatientslivinginthecommunity,andtheratingscaleoftheK-DHSisalsoappropriate.Thisstudyisthefirstto
conductananalysisoftheratingscaleanditsappropriateness,aswellasthedifficultyofitemsbasedonitemresponsetheory,
andoffersnewinsightsforenhancinghopeandimprovingwell-beingfollowingstroke
