Abstract :
TheMichiganHandOutcomesQuestionnaire(MHQ)isapatient-ratedhandoutcomeinstrument.Itiswidelyused
inorthopedicandneurologicalconditionsofthehandsandupperlimbs.TogainmoreknowledgeonhandoutcomesfromaThai
patientperspective,anMHQ-Thaiversionisrequired.Purpose of the Study.Thestudyisaimedattranslatingandcross-culturally
adaptingtheMHQintoThaiandatexaminingthevalidityandreliabilityofthetranslatedversion.Methods.TheBeatonprotocol
forcross-culturaladaptationofself-reportedmeasureswasusedinthetranslationprocess.Threeoccupationaltherapistswere
askedtoassesscontentvaliditywhile30participantswereaskedtofillinthequestionnaireinordertoassessconstructvalidity,
internalconsistency,andtest-retestreliability.Results.AllsixdomainsoftheMHQweretranslatedintoThaiwithoutanymajor
problems.However,itemsrelatedtothecharacteristicsofthepatientswereadaptedtosuittheThaicontext.TheMHQ-Thai
versionhadgoodcontentvalidity(IOC0.972).Theconstructvalidityrevealedalow-to-highcorrelationbetweeneverysubscale
oftheMHQ-Thaiversion.Theintraclasscorrelationcoefficient(ICC)ofthetest-retestreliabilityforthesixdomainsranged
from0.788to0.956,withexcellentcorrelation(ICC=0.953)forthetotalscore.Cronbach’salphawas0.835forthetotalscoreof
theMHQ-Thaiversion,indicatinggoodinternalconsistency.Discussion and Conclusions.MHQwassuccessfullycross-
culturallyadaptedintoThai.TheMHQ-Thaiversionisavalidandreliableinstrumentforevaluatingtheself-perceptionofThai
peoplewhohavehandandupperlimbinjuries
