  • Abstract
    Negativebehavioralproblemsoftenoccurfollowingtheonsetofneurodevelopmentaldisordersandhaveanoverall impactontheaffectedchildren,specificallyintermsoftheirsocialdevelopmentallevel.Inchildren,socialdevelopment behaviorhasbeenshowntospontaneouslymatureovertimewiththecognitivetherapyinterventioneffects.Thisstudy performedameta-analysistoprovideastatisticalsynopsisoftheavailableevidenceofsocialdevelopmentbehavioralchanges followingcognitivetherapyinchildrenwithneurodevelopmentaldisorders.Methods.Datawascollectedfromtwoonlinesearch engines,includingEBSCOhostandPubMed,fromJanuary1,2006,toAugust31,2016,usingtheterms“cognition,”“cognitive function,”and“diseaseincludingneurodevelopmentaldisorderwithDSM-5.”Twoassessorssearchedtheliteratureusing independentinclusioncriteriaandevaluatedthequalityofresultsusingtheJadadscore.Sixarticleswerechosenusingthe ComprehensiveMeta-Analysisprogram(version2.0).Results.Sixarticlesreportingrandomizedcontrolledtrialstudieswere included.Theeffectivescoresforimprovingadaptivebehaviorfollowingcognitivetherapyinchildrenwithneurodevelopmental disorderwere0.64.Theeffectivescoreofadaptivebehaviorwassignificantinthisstudy(p<005).Theresultsshowedno significantstatisticalheterogeneityandpublicationbias.Conclusions.Thefindingsofthemeta-analysissuggestthatcognitive interventionsareeffectiveatimprovingadaptivebehaviorassociatedwithneurodevelopmentaldisorders
