Abstract :
The correction of the vital functions deteriorating due to poisoning is a first main aim. In this subject, although advanced methods have been developed, symptomatic and supportive treatment has been still continuing to maintain its importance. Besides, if specific antidote is available, it must immediately be used in poisonings. However, there is no specific antidote for treatment of each drug or xenobiotic poisoning. Therefore, even if, the antidote exists or not, symptomatic and supportive treatment is beneficial and often life saving. A number of medicines are used for his approach. Among these insulin is also important. The most common reason for the use of insulin is the regulation of blood sugar and being taken under control of hyperpotassemia. However, in addition to the important metabolic effects of the insulin, it has been reported that it might also contributes to the improvement of neurological sequels and impaired cardiac functions. There are few clinical data about the latter two aims of uses of insulin. The more research and application results in this field increase, the more safe usage of insulin for this or other similar applications in pathological conditions and poisonings will be common.
