Abstract :
The first step in preventing cancer is to determine the causes of cancer in humans. Workplace exposure to agents that cause cancer has been known for over 200 years. It was first mentioned by Sir Percival Pott in 1775 that the frequency of scrotal cancer in chimney sweepers has risen and 200 years later Creech and Johnson continued to show that in vinyl chloride workers, these substances cause the liver angiosarcoma. Approximately 415 similar carcinogenic agents have been defined by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. Average 5% of all cancers occur as a result of the factors in the workplace. Another important factor in occupational cancer is that they are preventable.
