Abstract :
This is a preliminary research on the museum education. This study investigates how its process go about and what are the benefits from the education. Data are collected from four months (from September to December 2009) field observation at National Museum, Kuala Lumpur. It is found that museum education equips the formal-education in school. Most subjects in school whether in socialsciences (such as history, geography, literature, culture and art) or pure science are suitable to pursuing museum education because there are many types of museum, not limited to historical, heritage and ancient artifacts. A museum is characterized by the themes of its exhibition such as flora, fauna, history, document (archive), archaeology, geology, science, technology and outer space.It is found that museum education not only enjoy but also could give permanent effect to the students’ mind because, on one hand, the exhibition objects are unique or very rare to find in everyday life. These kind of objects by themselves could motivate the students to learn. On the other hand, museum education could stimulate the visitors to anticipate in what they are studying. This paper lists down some measures on how to undertake effective museum education.
