A CRITICAL REVIEW ON THE RECOVERY OF SILVER FROM PHOTOGRAPHIC PROCESSING WASTE

Silver is a precious metal and it has several uses. It is used as an industrial commodity. Its use by human civilization has been known for more than 6000 years. In India; silver recovered from the non-ferrous metallurgical industry, locally generated scrap, photographic processing effluent and the incineration of photographic films and processed radiographic films. There is little information available about the toxicity of silver to the Indian ecosystem. However, recent worldwide studies show that toxicity of silver depends on its chemical form, concentration, salinity, redox potential and pH of the receiving water that might cause biological imbalance to some extent.
