SOCIAL CHANGE an‎d CRISIS NARRATIVE IN YAVUZ TURGUL’S FILMS

This study analyses Yavuz Turgul’s films in the context of the sociopolitical transformation and the crisis of modernity in Turkey. In the first part of the study focuses on Turkey’s social and cultural structure after 1980. The second part of the study aims to present an analysis of Turgul’s films in the light of common properties and main themes such as social change, East-West dichotomy and male friendship. Using the methods of the sociological approach, the study also explores the relationship between Turgul’s films and the dominant discourses of the period.

Bu çalışma Yavuz Turgul filmlerini modernliğin krizi ve Türkiye'nin sosyopolitik dönüşümü bağ-lamında ele almaktadır. Çalışmanın ilk bölümü 1980 sonrası Türkiye'nin toplumsal ve kültürel yapısına odaklanmakta; ikinci bölümü ise Yavuz Turgul filmlerini toplumsal cinsiyet, Doğu-Batı ikiliği ve erkek dostluğu biçiminde sıralanabilecek üç ana tema çerçevesinde analiz etmektedir. Sosyolojik bir çözümleme yönteminden yola çıkan çalışma, filmlerin dönemin egemen söylemleriy-le ilişkisini araştırmaktadır.
