RETHINKING COMMUNICATION EDUCATION IN THE CONTEXT OF INTERNATIONAL HIGHER EDUCATION TRENDS

Innovations in Higher Educational Systems around the World affect the structure of university level education in Turkey. Many distinct applications of communication education are available around the World, as it has a background of 60 years in Turkey’s higher education system. Within this context, this paper argues posture of the education given in communication schools through the contemporary trends in higher education. The research investigates the educational structure of 48 communication schools of different universities subjected to the Turkish Higher Educational System. The study pointed out that communication education in Turkey fall behind the contemporary trends in higher education.

Yükseköğrenimde dünyada yaşanan dinamizm, ülkemizdeki üniversite eğitim süreçlerini de etkilemektedir. Türkiye'de 60 yılı aşkın bir geçmişe sahip olan iletişim eğitiminin dünyada ve ülkemizde farklı biçimlerde uygulamaları gözlemlenmektedir. Çalışmanın temel sorunsalı iletişim fakültelerindeki eğitim yapısının günümüz yükseköğrenim eğilimleri çerçevesinde değerlendirilmesidir. Çalışmada, yükseköğrenim sistemine kayıtlı 48 üniversitenin iletişim fakültelerinin eğitim yapıları incelenmiştir. İletişim eğitiminin genel yapısının yükseköğrenim trendleri bağlamında incelendiği çalışmada, iletişim eğitiminin yükseköğrenimin güncel eğilimlerinin oldukça uzağında olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
