Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to explore the emotional intelligence of preschool children with hearing impairments. The children’s emotional intelligence was measured in terms of their ability (1) to recognize their own emotions, (2) to manage emotions, (3) to motivate themselves, (4) to recognize the emotions of others, and (5) to establish social relationships. Data were collected using teacher questionnaires, child observation forms, interviews with parents/ guardians, and documents analysis. The findings revealed that preschool children with hearing impairments have difficulty in constructing social relationships and managing their own emotions. These deficits were exacerbated by the neglect of parents/guardians. The findings reiterated the vital and crucial role and involvement of parents/guardians in deaf children’s emotional development.
