Abstract :
This article analyses the pattern of family vacation in Malaysia during the British era until late 1960s. A content analysis was utilised to comprehend the family vacation pattern, and several sources of data were derived from historical writings, domestic travelers narratives and tourism researchers pertaining to the families recreational activities Thefindings highlighted the domination of the family vacation patterns and more important, these patterns resemble and imitate the colonial practices. These findings show evidence that tourism activities took place in the earlier part of the domestication of tourism in the country, not as what often mentioned that it was only in the early 1970s that tourism has been emphasized in the Malaysian development senario. It is suggested that the nostalgic strategic tourism promotion be enhanced as an alternative of rejunevating family tourism activities to the country, both to the domestic and international tourists.
