Abstract :
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a member of the lentivirus subgroup of retroviruses, and has been shown to be the cause of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). It is believed that HIV-1 evolved with chimpanzees and crossed over to human beings. Another type of the HIV virus, HIV-2, originated from the simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) of Cercocebus atys in West Africa, where the virus is endemic. HIV entered the United States in the late 1970s and was first described in 1981
