Abstract :
The present studies were carried out to determine the effect of cultural and least toxic approaches to control the termites in sugarcane. Sugarcane variety HSF-240 was sown at Postgraduate Agriculture Research Station (PARS), Jhang Road, Faisalabad under Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) having six treatments in each block. T1 (Poultry manure one tractor trolley acre^-1), T2 (Farm Yard Manure sprayed with fipronil), T3 (chlorpyrifos @1 L acre^-1), T4 (AK- Plant (Calotropis procera extract), T5 (Intercropping with moong) and T6 (Control) were treatments. Bud damage, Percentage germination and Damage on seedling and termites’ population count were analysed to descrine the effect of treatments. The difference of per cent germination of sugarcane among the treatments was statistically significant (p 0.05) on all post sowing intervals. The germination in FYM and chlorpyrifos treated plots was comparatively high and these two treatments had nonsignificant difference between each other but not with other treatments to which these were statistically different. Ak extract and intercropping had non- significant difference between each other at all post sowing time points. Poultry manure had non significant difference with control. Ak extract, intercropping and poultry manure did not promote the germination. The effect of different treatments on bud damage in sugarcane was non-significant (p 0.05). Termite’s median counts in monitoring stations installed in different treatments had non- significant difference among the treatments at various post sowing dates.
