Abstract :
Effect of cypermethrin at sublethal doses (16.56 ppm and 8.34 ppm) in different post treatment inetrvals (12, 24 and 48 hours) was observed on reproductive organs of female and male Chrotogonus trachypterus Blan., respectively. The testes showed disruption and clumping of chromatin material of spermatocytes. Giant and ghost cells appeared. Due to cytoplasmin degradation, formation of spaces and vacuoles inceased. Spermatogonia and spermatocytes became pycnotic. Hypertrophied spermatozoa were also observed. Anomalies in the ovaries in the form of pycnosis in follicular cells and contraction of cytoplasm were as same as in testes. Follicular cells started multiplication to fill up the space. Nucleus of ovariole showed chromatolysis and fragmentation in nuclear material. Yolk bodies converted into dead yolk mass. Damages caused both in testes and ovaries were directly correlated with duration of treatment.
