Abstract :
The toxicities of tenekil (poly chlorinated petroleum hydrocarbon), termidor (fipronil) and terminus (chlorpyrifos) against Microtermes obesi in soil were compared. Different concentrations of these insecticides were used to determine the repellent concentration against M. obesi and compare the F-1 (0.97) mortality. At higher concentration, Termidor demonstrated 97% mortality in less than 8 hours whereas tenekil and terminus exhibited same mortality in more than 8h. The LC50 values were 3.15 ppm, 7.816 ppm and 114.55 ppm for termidor, terminus and tenekil against M. obesi in an 8h assay, respectively. Tenekil revealed repellent effects at 200 ppm and higher doses, termidor was repellent at 100 and 50 ppm, whereas terminus was repellent at 500 and 250 ppm concentraions. On the basis of these findings, it can be concluded and suggested that that termidor proved more effective at lower doses both as toxicant and repellent insecticides when compared with tenekil and terminus.
