Abstract :
The different fractions of oils of Prunus domestica Linn were examined and analyzed by GC GCEIMS. Retention indices and mass spectral data were used to identify 29 oil components. 2-(4- nitrophenyl) acetamide, 3-hydroxy-4-methyl pentanoic acid ethyl ester, 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy benzeneacetic acid, octanoic acid 1-methyltridecyl ester and 6-methoxy-2-[4-hydroxybenzylidene]coumaran-3- one were the major components of the oil. The different fractions were also tested for their insecticidal and antifungal activities. The oil (fractions) were selectively toxic towards Tribolium castaneum, Sitophilus oryzea, Rhyzopertha dominica and Callosobruchus analis. These fractions showed antifungal activities against Trichphyton longifusus, Candida albicans, Aspergillus flavus, Microsporum canis, Fusarium solani and Candida glabrata. This is the first analysis of the oil from P. domestica seeds.
