The basic aim of this study was to make an appraisal of the status of collection management in the university libraries of Pakistan and to determine as to what extent they are following the current trends. To achieve this objective a mixed-methodology research design (consisting of quantitative and qualitative method) was employed. In the first phase, a thorough review of the literature was carried out to determine the developments in thephilosophy and framework of collection management. Other major areas covered in the review include (i) collection management policy, the origins and evolution of a written policy (ii) the originsand evolution of a contemporary university including its library,collection and their management and the challenges posed by thedigital paradigm (iii) functions of universities and their libraries inPakistan. Based on the literature review, data collecting instruments were developed for mail-in survey and in-depth interviews.
