Abstract :
The purpose of this paper is to estimate the amount of methane emitted from Al Akeeder landfill which is the second largest landfill in Jordan. To achieve that Gas-Sim model was used in predicting the amount of methane emissions. It was found that the methane emission will reach its peak value of 12 Million M3/year by the year 2021, one year after the landfill closure. Furthermore, the power that can be obtained from the landfill in case ob methane recovery was estimated to be 5.6 MW in 2021. Utilizing the biogas will not only generate a green energy, but also will create a source of revenue through selling the CERs regulated by Clean Development Mechanism of Kyoto protocol.
