Abstract :
The article briefly discusses the process of democratisation in higher education which is defined as the act of giving greater access to higher education to a larger number of youths as well as older candidates. Democratisation of higher education has given rise to concerns about the quality as well as the effectiveness of the education system as a whole. In highlighting some of these issues, the opinions of acdemicians and others in countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Malaysia are referred to. Towards the concluding part of the article, it is suggested that the issues be given further and closer attention. In fact there is even a need for the very notion of the democratisation of education be relooked into or redefined
