Abstract :
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a world wide public health problem About twenty percent of patients with chronic hepatitis C virus infection will insidiously progress to cirrhosis after 10-20 years. In this retrospective study, 60 hospitals admitted cirrhotic HCV patients were investigated for liver profile, and were compared with 150 non-cirrhotic HCV patients. The values of Albumin (A), Globulin (O), Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), Alanine aminotransferase (ALT), Gammaglutamyl transferase (GOT), Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) serum bilirubin levels and AST/ALT ratio in cirrhotic HCV patients, were significantly elevated (p 0 001) as compared to non-cirrhotic HCV patients The value of albumin in cirrhotic patients was significantly lower than those in noncirrhotic patients. The difference between AJG ratio of cirrhotics and non-cirrhotics (0.60 vs 1,46) was highly significant (p 0.001). ALT values were significantly higher (p 0.001) in non-cirrhotic patients. AST/ ALT ratio greater than one in cirrhotic patients (1.45 vs 0.67), was highly significant when compared to non-cirrhotic HCV patients.
