Abstract :
Due to the continuous development in power system, it is essential to provide the power network extension. This extension leads to complexity for connccting or disconnecting some transmission lines or substations, which consequently requires safety restrictions. The electric switches have many specifications and characteristics that differ from one type to another. Not all of these switches could break the short circuit current or distinguish the generated spark but only the circuit breaker switches can handle it. As the function of each type of switches is different, each type has its specific rules. This paper introduces basic analytical foundations needed in order to understand and deal with the interlocking conditions that should be implemented using Grid Data Language (GDL) description of the power system and feeding interlocking cases which then have been used as an input and a target to a neural network so that the operator can feed only the field parameters containing the wanted switch new state, and then the output will evaluate the true states for all the network elements (circuit breakers, disconnecting switches, and also earthing switches).
