Abstract :
This study was performed for the purpose of determining the drawing development properties of children in pre-schematic period (4-7 years) according to their drawing development stages, comparing space properties in drawing with 14 categories of Eisner, examining drawing development properties of the children in terms of gender. This was a study in screening model and it tried to describe drawing development properties of children between four-seven years old. The study was performed with four-seven years old children in nurseries, kindergartens, and primary schools in Kayseri. 126 girls and 144 boys totally 270 children chosen by simple and randomly sampling created the study group of the research. Children included in the research draw a picture subject of which subject was “my school and I”. “A drawing assessment form” and “14 categories of Eisner form” were used in order to assess (evaluate) the drawings of the children. Drawings of the children were assessed by three specialists in terms of drawing development properties and because the assessment results of those three specialists were similar a randomly selected specialist assessment were used. As a result of assessment of drawings of four-seven years old children included in the research, it was understood that they had the features of pre-schematic periods, and they had similarities with 14 categories of Eisner in terms of space depiction, drawings of the children was not different according to sex in terms of some features, they are different according to age in terms of 14 categories of Eisner. It was emphasized at the end of the study that it is important to support children’s drawing development periods and drawing is an effective mean in child’s having academic success and social-emotional skills
