Abstract :
The γ-synuclein gene is a member of the human synuclein genes (α, β and γ). The sequence data of the human synuclein genes showed that γ-synuclein is similar by 55.9% of α-synuclein and 54.3% of β-synuclein sequence. The γ-synuclein gene sequence is highly similar to breast cancer-specific gene one (BCSG1). γ-synuclein was found to be expressed at high levels in aging cerebral cortex, and also in breast tumours. γ-synuclein or (BCSG1) was found highly increased in infiltrating breast cancers compared with normal breast tissues and benign cancers. Here, we investigate the expression of γ-synuclein gene in a number of different cancer cell lines. These cell lines were derived from normal breast (HBL 100), hepatocarcinoma (SK-HEP1), vulval epidermoid carcinoma (A431), human metastatic breast cancer (MDA-MB231, T47D, and MCF-7), and human ovarian cancer (PEO1). Our data were confirmed the differential expression of the γ- synuclein gene in breast and ovarian cancer cell lines. Furthermore, our data did not show the reported two polymorphisms in the coding region of the γ-synuclein gene (G → C at position 243 and T → A at position 377). All those together suggests that the γ-synuclein gene may involved in the aetiology of the breast and ovarian cancers.
