Abstract :
Valvular heart disease is a common clinical problem and mitral valve regurgitation is the lesion seen most frequently. The mitral valve is a complex structure and regurgitation of the valve may occur due to abnormalities of the valve leaflets, the chordae tendineae, the papillary muscles or the mitral valveannulus. The aetiology of mitral regurgitation may be classified as either organic or functional.
