THE EASTERN SIGILLATA D (CYPRIOT SIGILLATA) WARE FROM SIDE EXCAVATIONS IN 2009 - 2011

The aim of this article is to introduce, classify and analyze the Eastern Sigillata D ceramics found in excavations of Side 2009-2011. There are 16 various forms such as plates, bowls and craters in Side between first century BC - first century AD Side has a higher amount of this group comparing to various settlements in eastern Mediterranean. There is a general concensus about the production centre of ESD that were first identified by John W. Hayes, should be in Cyprus. This Eastern Sigillata D Group show an increasement after the first half of the first century AD by replacing Eastern Sigillata A which was widely used in early Roman Period.
