Abstract :
Throughout the entire history, the primary need for mankind has been a proper shelter. Every step as a result of technological achievement in human history is reflected by renovations and diversities of living areas along with adapting new forms. Today, all these processes are tried to be identified and interpreted by means of architectural remains uncovered at archaeological sites. The “Wattle and Daub” building technique and “Grid-plan” as an architectural form, which both represent the prominent features of Bakla Tepe Late Chalcolithic settlement and constitutes the scope of this study, appear as one of the important combinations of plan and technique throughout the architectural history. This architectural form and building technique have been used in different geographical regions from Pre- Pottery Neolithic onwards. At Bakla Tepe, the excavations conducted between 1995-2001 revealed examples of such buildings at the Late Chalcolithic settlement. Based on the architectural remains from Bakla Tepe, this study offers a reconstruction proposal for the Late Chalcolithic dwellings. The examination of architectural remains and related finds brought up to the conclusion that two different types of roofing were possibly used and restitutions were completed accordingly.
