Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop a teaching approach aiming at eliminating student difficulties with radian and to investigate students’ progress in overcoming these difficulties. For this purpose, two groups were taught the radian concept with two different approaches. In the first group, mathematics curriculum was followed, while in the other group a teaching approach which was designed considering student difficulties with radian was embraced. A multiple-case study was designed by selecting three pairs of 10th grade students from two groups and the progress of students’ understanding of radian was compared in a qualitative way. The findings of the study indicated that the second approach was more effective in terms of overcoming student difficulties with radian
