Abstract :
Century Information Age requires development of human resources with various qualities. Information Age people are expected to be critical thinker, prone to cooperative works, and know and accept themselves, and also expected to have full knowledge about information technologies, effective communication skills, and career management skills. Educational institutions need to configure human resources in order to be responsive to new values of Information Age. This situation requires structuring Guidance and Psychological Counseling services, which reserve a significant place in educational system, in a way not only focused on problems and crises but to be preventive and developmental. One of the educational institutions in our country, who felt this necessity and took an action, is the Police Academy. To adapt these requirements of the Information Age, since 15 September 2011 within the support of TUBİTAK, Police Academy Guidance and Psychological Counseling Department begin a reconstruction process. Main purpose of the project, which will last 36 months, is supporting police officer’s and chief police officer’s basic life skills and development. In the first 12 months of the project, Comprehensive Developmental Guidance Program (CDGP), based upon the mission of Police Academy Faculty of Security Sciences and student’s needs, has been developed. Three main components of CDGP (contents, organizational framework and resources) have been determined and five main intervention programs (psychoeducation, classroom guidance, school-wide activities, peer helping, and consultation) have been prepared. They have been put into practice by five phases design process (planning, designing, implementation, evaluation and developing). The purpose of this study is to share the main lines of works have been done within this five phases of design process in the first year of project.
