Abstract
The present study aims to explain the purpose, function, characteristics, the need for needs analysis, and teaching and evaluation of the cross-curricular themes that have been used since the renewal of the elementary curricula in 2005. The study makes use of the explanations and suggestions in the national curricula of the other countries applying the cross-curricular approach. In the study, it has been found out that cross-curricular themes have been included in the curricula to cover the complicated issues societies face, and they should be determined considering the national and social necessities and priorities
