Abstract :
Effective use of language skills of individuals depends on the vocabulary in other words, rich vocabulary. In the case of deposition of forming are not just words, are proverbs, idioms and sayings which reflecting the cultural heritage. Language as a means of providing communication becomes effective in individuals cultural integration. In this sense, idioms are supporting the cultural dimension of the language and carrying out important material. To use language effectively idioms must be learned and known. The purpose of this study is to identify which method is used when teaching the idioms is more effective for Turkish courses in secondary school Grade 7 students, and which of these methods is easier to remember after a certain period, and what is the effect of the gender factor. For this purpose, three different working groups have been created with 127 students who are up to 13-15 age range in 7.class of the junior high schools which are affiliated to the Ministry of Education. First of all, for the determination of idioms document analysis and achievement test (pre-test) was performed, and then was applied three different methods for teaching the selected idioms, and immediately after re-achievement test (post-test) was conducted. Three weeks later, the same achievement test (delayed post-test) applied again to the same participants, and statistical comparisons were made. Significant differences between the methods was determined, and also determined that the visuals are more permanent, and female students have the high success rate at each stage than male students.
