Abstract :
In the field of Classical Turkish Literature in other words Diwan Literature, it is usually left to the sole discretion of the researcher to decide if a poet is Hurufi or not. This paper discusses before all the terms used frequently as “Hurufi” and “influenced by Hurufism”. And it focuses mainly on the Hurufi character of the Classical Turkish Poets which used Hurufi terms and interpretations in their verses. Nevertheless, we do not have any further information on their Hurufi beliefs. Accordingly, the well-known Hurufi poets who devoted their pen to Hurufism like Nasīmī, Rafīʿī, Mithālī and ʿArshī are outside the scope of this paper. Last but not least this paper focuses on the poets who are claimed to be Hurufi or to be influenced by Hurufism like Khayratī, Usūlī, Rūhī Baghdādī, ʿĀlī of Gallipoli and Haqīqī, within the frame of our approach, their verses will be analyzed as well.
