Abstract :
It has so far been expressed by many that Ahmet Hâşim’s prose has a poetic taste. However not many people have stated that some of Hâşim’s prose texts, beyond being poetic, are in fact “poetry”. In the article, reading of Hâşim’s prose in which we relocate the constitutive images to the center, it is stated that some of Hâşim’s essays, while their external structure looks like prose, are essentially not prose but poetry. As one examines the classical texts of prose poetry in whose establishment poets such as Comte de Lautréamont, Aloysius Bertrand, Charles Baudelaire and Arthur Rimbaud had a role, it is observed that many of Hâşim’s prose texts can well be evaluated under the genre of prose poetry. The idea that while deciding whether a text is poetry or not, one should look at the essence and setup of a text rather than whether the lines are juxtaposed or one under the other, is taken as a basis in the article. In accordance with this idea, it is concluded that some of Hâşim’s prose texts which contain intensive images such as the essay titled “The Moon” need to be considered as “prose poetry”. Reading Hâşim’s prose through this new and original perspective can enable us to evaluate Hâşim’s poesy in a versatile and multi-dimensional way, as well as approach the issue of designating the boundary of the Turkish prose poetry literature in a more fresh and dynamic manner.
