Cracked Tooth Syndrome: clinical insights and predictable management

Cracked Tooth Syndrome (CTS) refers to all clinical manifestations caused by an incomplete longitudinal fracture of a tooth involving dentin, and possibly pulp. While knowledge regarding its elusive diagnosis has not considerably changed, treatment approach of this condition has evolved since new materials and techniques were introduced. This, added to a better understanding of stress mechanisms in teeth, may contribute to more predictable restorations and the prevention of fractures that can be devastating for the patient. The purpose of this paper is to discuss all aspects encompassing history, incidence, etiology, classification, diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and prognosis of CTS.
