Abstract :
A laboratory study was conducted during 2004-05 in Weed Science Research Laboratory, Department of Weed Science, NWFP Agricultural University, Peshawar. To analysis the growth of different biotypes of wild oats collected across NWFP and Federal capital. The tested wild oats biotypes included Mardan, Malakand, Karak, D.I.Khan, NARC-Islamabad, Charsada, Peshawar, Swat and Kohat. The data were recorded Plant height (cm), Lamina width (cm), Lamina length (cm), Number of leaves plant-1, Relative growth rate (RGR), Leaf area ratio (LAR), Specific leaf area (SLA), Specific leaf weight (SLW), Net assimilation rate (NAR) and Leaf area duration (LAD) .The data for individual traits were subjected to ANOVA technique. The analyses of data revealed that the tested biotypes statistically varied in Lamina width (cm), Relative growth rate (RGR), Leaf area ratio (LAR), Specific leaf area (SLA), Specific leaf weight (SLW), Net assimilation rate (NAR) and Leaf area duration (LAD). Although, plant height, Lamina length (cm), and number of leaves plant- were non significant among different wild oat biotypes. Different biotypes contemplated exhibit that they differ in their competitive ability as their performance varied in the morphological and physiological parameters. Therefore, in the native areas of the more competitive wild oats more attention will be needed on the control of wild oats as compared to the less competitive genotypes
