Abstract :
There is a notion that the ḥajj pilgrimage is foundedon trials and tribulations or mashaqqah and, it isnot worthy of a pilgrimage if one does not suffer theexhaustion and fatigue. The ḥajj is an obligationsimilar to other acts of worship decreed by Allahupon His servants. Flexibilities (al-taysīr) or reliefendowed in Islam for the believers in all obligatoryrituals is also present in the hajj. In order to ensurethat taysīr is practised in accordance with therequirements of Islamic law, certain conditionsmust be met. This is because taysīr is unlike tashilwhich means “to take easy” so much so that in some khilafiyah problems, some parties opt for rukhṣah,which is choosing the simplest idea to be carriedout without due consideration for the propositionsof shar‘ī. This article aims to explain flexibilitiesor relief and Islamic tasāmuh in the difficult andburdensome aspects of performing ḥajj routines. Byciting several examples of the provisions in taysīrwhich were resolved in the National Hajj Muzakarah, this article concludes that taysīr which is practisedconforms with Shariah which aims to grant reliefand convenience to the pilgrims in performing the obligatory steps in ḥajj.
