ADAPTING AND APPROPRIATING JANE AUSTEN S PRIDE AND PREJUDICE

Adaptation and appropriation have reproductive dimensions that suggest manifold ways in which texts feed off and create other texts. Adaptation and appropriation vary in the ways they explicitly state their intertextual purpose. In recent years, adaptation has become a controversial issue that provokes intense debate among authors and auteurs. Adapted and appropriated film versions of Jane Austen s novel Pride and Prejudice reflect the on-going battle between some literary and film critics.
